Cherrystone clam is a medium-to-large size grade of the Atlantic hard clam (Mercenaria mercenaria), larger than littleneck and topneck but smaller than chowder (quahog) clams. The meat is firm and meaty with a clean briny-sweet flavor and a distinct mineral finish, making it adaptable to both raw and cooked applications.

Culinarily, cherrystones are popular for grilling, baking, stuffing, and hearty chowders; they can also be served raw on the half shell, though they are chewier than smaller grades. Rinse well and purge in lightly salted water to reduce grit. Sustainably farmed and wild-harvested along the U.S. East Coast, they are typically available year-round.
