The Naked and Famous is an equal-parts, modern classic cocktail that balances smoke, citrus, sweetness, and gentle bitterness. Joven mezcal brings a soft, savory smokiness; yellow Chartreuse adds floral-herbal depth; Aperol contributes bittersweet orange and rhubarb notes; and fresh lime sharpens everything with bright acidity. Shaken and served up, it has a silky texture, a glowing hue, and a finish that’s complex yet remarkably approachable.

Created in a contemporary cocktail bar setting, the drink has become a staple for fans of elegant, balanced sours. It was developed in New York City in the early 2010s and quickly spread through menus and home bars alike. Structurally, it echoes the equal-parts lineage of The Last Word and the Paper Plane, but trades their botanicals and amari for mezcal’s smoke and yellow Chartreuse’s softer herbal profile. Its reliability and striking flavor contrast helped cement its reputation as a modern standard.
