A matcha smoothie is a creamy, chilled drink that blends the grassy, slightly bitter notes of Japanese green tea powder with the natural sweetness of fruit and the richness of dairy or dairy alternatives. The result is a smooth, frothy texture with a refreshing, clean finish that feels both indulgent and energizing. The vibrant green color signals the presence of matcha and, in many modern versions, leafy greens like spinach for additional freshness.

Matcha itself originates from Japan, where it has been used for centuries in traditional tea ceremonies and later in sweets and desserts. As matcha gained popularity worldwide in the late 20th and early 21st centuries, it began appearing in lattes, baked goods, and blended drinks. The matcha smoothie is a contemporary fusion that pairs this historic tea with Western-style smoothie culture, making it a popular choice in cafés and home kitchens for a quick, flavorful way to enjoy matcha outside of formal tea rituals.
