The Dark 'n' Stormy is a tall, sparkling rum highball marked by a dramatic, layered look: spicy-sweet ginger beer below and a dusky cap of dark rum drifting on top. Its flavor balances the warm bite of ginger, subtle sweetness, and the molasses-rich depth of aged dark rum. Served ice-cold, it’s refreshing yet sturdy, with effervescence that lifts the aromatics and a finish that’s zesty and smooth in turns.
Born in Bermuda, the drink is inseparable from Goslings Black Seal rum and local ginger beer, a pairing sailors and islanders embraced for its bracing character. Over time it became a national emblem alongside the Rum Swizzle, with the name “Dark ’n’ Stormy” famously trademarked—tradition holds that it must be made with Goslings Black Seal rum. Its build-in-glass method and signature rum float are part of the drink’s identity, preserving both the layered look and the lively fizz that define it.
