A caramel frappe is a blended iced coffee drink that balances the roasty depth of coffee with buttery caramel and creamy dairy. Thick, frosty, and milkshake-like, it’s served with a crown of whipped cream and a drizzle of caramel for extra richness. The texture should be smooth and spoonable yet sippable, with a clean coffee finish that cuts through the sweetness.

While the word “frappe” has older roots, the modern caramel frappe gained mainstream popularity through American coffeehouse culture in the 1990s and 2000s. Chains helped standardize the template: chilled coffee, milk, sweet caramel, and plenty of ice blended to a uniform slush. Today it’s a global café staple, adapted to local tastes but still recognizable for its layered caramel-and-cream presentation and dessert-like appeal.
