Ants On A Log
Ingredients
- 4 stalks celery stalks – washed and dried
- 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter – stirred until smooth
- 1/3 cup raisins

Instructions
1. Trim both ends from each celery stalk, then cut each stalk crosswise into 2 equal pieces to make 8 short logs.
2. Use a small spoon or knife to fill the groove of each celery log with creamy peanut butter, leveling it so it sits just below the edges.
3. Press raisins gently into the peanut butter along the length of each celery log, spacing them evenly to resemble a line of ants.
4. Arrange the finished logs on a plate and serve immediately, or cover and refrigerate for up to 1 day before serving.
Ants on a Log is a playful, no-cook snack made from crisp celery sticks filled with creamy peanut butter and dotted with raisins. The combination offers a satisfying contrast of textures: crunchy celery, smooth and rich peanut butter, and chewy, sweet dried fruit. Its whimsical name and simple assembly make it a favorite with children, but the balance of natural sweetness, saltiness, and freshness also appeals to adults.
Although now widely known across the United States, Ants on a Log emerged in mid-20th-century American home and school cooking, closely tied to the rise of peanut butter as a pantry staple. It often appears in cookbooks and nutrition guides as a fun way to encourage children to eat vegetables, especially in the context of health-conscious trends of the 1960s and 1970s. Over time, the basic idea has inspired many variations, but the celery–peanut butter–raisin trio remains the most recognizable version.
