Tortilla strips are thin, narrow pieces cut from corn tortillas and fried or baked. They fry up shatteringly crisp and light, holding their texture in hot soup and fresh salads. Commonly used as a crunchy topper or mix-in, they come plain or seasoned and in narrow or wide cuts.

They evolved from Mexican corn-tortilla cookery and spread through Tex-Mex and Southwestern cuisines. Commercial versions are made from nixtamalized masa, sheeted and cut, then fried or baked.
