Limoncello is a bright yellow Italian lemon liqueur. It tastes intensely of lemon zest with a silky, syrupy body; it is typically served well chilled as a sipper, mixed into spritzes, or folded into desserts and glazes. Most bottles range around 25–30% ABV and are sold clear and filtered.
It originated along Italy’s Amalfi and Sorrento coasts and spread throughout the country and abroad as a popular digestivo. Producers and home cooks make it by steeping lemon peels in neutral spirit, then sweetening and diluting to bottling strength; it appears widely in Italian and Italian-American pastry and cocktail traditions.
