Great Northern Bean

Great Northern bean is a medium-sized white bean with a thin skin and plump oval shape. It cooks to a creamy, tender interior with mild, nutty flavor and holds its shape in soups, stews, and casseroles. It purees smoothly for dips and spreads and is commonly sold dried or canned.

It descends from the common bean domesticated in the Americas and is now widely grown in the United States and Canada, as well as Europe. The bean features prominently in North American comfort dishes and in simple European bean soups and braises.
