Canned pineapple chunks are bite-size pieces of pineapple packed in liquid inside a sealed can. They are sweet-tart and juicy, hold their shape when baked or stir-fried, and come ready to use, typically packed in juice or light syrup. Cooks use them to top pizzas, fold into salads and salsas, blend into smoothies, and bake into cakes.
Commercial pineapple canning grew in the early 20th century in Hawaii and later across Southeast Asia and Latin America; today much production comes from the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, and Costa Rica. Fruit is harvested, peeled, cored, cut into uniform chunks, covered with liquid, and heat-processed to remain shelf-stable.
