Cucumber Water
Ingredients
- 12 ounces cucumber – thinly sliced (~1 medium cucumber)
- 8 cups water
- ice cubes – for serving

Instructions
1. Rinse and trim the cucumber, then thinly slice; reserve a few slices for serving.
2. Put the remaining slices in a large pitcher and add the water.
3. Cover and refrigerate 2–12 hours until the water smells fragrant and tastes crisp; 2 hours yields a light flavor, 4–8 hours a fuller infusion.
4. Strain out the solids once infused (no later than 12 hours) to avoid bitterness, then return the liquid to the pitcher and keep chilled.
5. Fill glasses with the ice cubes, pour, and add the reserved slices. Serve cold.
Cucumber water is a simple infused drink that delivers clean, cooling flavor with a lightly vegetal aroma. The thin slices release subtle sweetness and a refreshing edge that makes plain water feel spa-like and uplifting. Served ice-cold, it’s crisp, thirst-quenching, and gentle enough to sip all day without overwhelming the palate.
While people have flavored water with fruits and herbs for centuries, cucumber water became especially associated with wellness culture and hospitality, notably in spas and hotels in the late 20th century. Its appeal spans many regions because cucumbers are widely grown and neutral in flavor, lending themselves naturally to infusion. Today it’s a global staple for elegant hydration, picnics, and gatherings, often presented in clear pitchers that showcase the floating slices.
