Agua de Melón is a refreshing Mexican agua fresca made by blending ripe cantaloupe with water and a touch of sugar. The result is lightly sweet, fragrant, and thirst-quenching, with a silky texture that can be left pulpy or strained smooth. A squeeze of lime and a tiny pinch of salt brighten and balance the melon’s natural sweetness, making it especially satisfying over ice on hot days.
Rooted in Mexico’s long tradition of aguas frescas, this drink is commonly found in markets, street stalls, and family tables when cantaloupes are at their peak. Aguas frescas date to pre-Hispanic practices of diluting fruits, flowers, and seeds with water for everyday refreshment. Agua de Melón endures as a beloved seasonal staple, prized for its simplicity, affordability, and the way it showcases ripe fruit.
