Vodka

Vodka is a clear, neutral distilled spirit typically bottled at 40% alcohol by volume. It has a clean, light body with a faint grain sweetness and minimal aroma, blending seamlessly into cocktails and infusions; it also works for deglazing and in tomato-cream sauces like penne alla vodka. Sold mostly unflavored at 80–100 proof, with flavored versions widely available.

Vodka developed in Eastern Europe, especially Poland and Russia, and spread globally in the 20th century. Producers traditionally ferment grains or potatoes, then distill to high purity and often charcoal-filter before bottling.
