Passion fruit is a small round or oval tropical fruit with a tough purple or yellow rind and jelly-like orange pulp filled with crunchy black seeds. The pulp tastes intensely aromatic, sweet-tart, and floral, with a heady perfume; the seeds add a pleasant crunch. Use it to flavor curds, sorbets, cocktails, sauces, and vinaigrettes, or spoon over yogurt and cakes; sold fresh, as strained pulp, or frozen puree.

Native to southern Brazil, Paraguay, and northern Argentina, passion fruit spread through South America and the Caribbean and is now grown across tropical and subtropical regions. It features prominently in Brazilian, Peruvian, and Caribbean cuisines, with commercial cultivation in Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Kenya, and India on trellised vines.
