A Chesapeake-style spice blend of celery salt, paprika, mustard, and aromatics, ground into a fine reddish-brown powder. It tastes savory and herbal with a celery-forward aroma and gentle heat. Cooks use it to season steamed crabs and shrimp, dust fries and popcorn, rim cocktail glasses, and rub chicken or pork. Sold as a dry seasoning blend.
The blend developed in the mid-Atlantic United States, especially around the Chesapeake Bay, and became a staple with steamed blue crabs and shrimp. It spread across North America through seafood shacks and home kitchens; commercial versions are produced by blending ground spices with salt and anticaking agents.
