Arnold Palmer
Ingredients
- 7 cups water
- 6 tea bags black tea bags
- 1 cups lemon juice – freshly squeezed
- 1 cups granulated sugar
- 4 cups ice cubes
- lemon slices – thinly sliced (for serving)

Instructions
1. Bring 4 cups of the water to a boil in a kettle or saucepan.
2. Add the black tea bags, remove from heat, and steep until robust, 5 minutes. Discard the tea bags and let the tea cool to room temperature, 20–30 minutes.
3. While the tea cools, make the lemonade: In a large pitcher, whisk the lemon juice and granulated sugar with the remaining 3 cups cold water until the sugar is fully dissolved.
4. Pour the cooled tea into the pitcher with the lemonade and stir gently to combine.
5. Fill serving glasses with the ice cubes. Divide the Arnold Palmer among the glasses.
6. Garnish each glass with a lemon slice, if using. Serve immediately, cold.
An Arnold Palmer is a refreshing, non-alcoholic half-and-half of iced tea and lemonade, prized for its balance of brisk tannins and bright citrus. The sweetness of the lemonade rounds the tea’s slight bitterness, creating a clean, quenching finish that’s perfect over ice. It’s simple, crowd-pleasing, and adaptable to different levels of tartness and sweetness.
The drink takes its name from the legendary American golfer Arnold Palmer, who popularized the combination by ordering it regularly in the mid-20th century. While variations of tea mixed with lemon or lemonade existed earlier, his association helped cement the exact half-and-half style in American food culture. It became a staple at golf clubs, diners, and home gatherings, eventually appearing bottled but remaining easy to make from scratch.
