French Beef Stew

  1. 1. In a deep bowl, combine beef, onion, wine, oil, bay leaf, parsley, salt, thyme, pepper and garlic; let marinate 4 hours.
  2. 2. Remove meat from marinade; pat dry; strain and reserve marinade.
  3. 3. In a Dutch oven or large heavy saucepan, heat butter or margarine and brown beef cubes well.
  4. 4. Sprinkle with flour; cook and stir 3 minutes.
  5. 5. Stir in beef broth and the reserved marinade.
  6. 6. Bring to a boil; reduce heat; cover and simmer 2 hours.
  7. 7. Add mushrooms; simmer 45 minutes or until beef is tender.
  8. 8. Serve with noodles or boiled potatoes.
