Ingredients
- 4 slices sandwich bread
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter – softened
- 4 slices American cheese
Instructions
- Preheat a large skillet over medium-low heat until warm, about 2 minutes.
- Spread the softened butter evenly over one side of each bread slice, reaching the edges.
- Place 2 slices of bread buttered-side down in the skillet; top evenly with the American cheese, then cap with the remaining bread, buttered-side up.
- Cook until the first side is deep golden brown and the cheese is beginning to melt, 3–4 minutes; adjust heat down if browning too quickly.
- Flip carefully and cook until the second side is golden and the cheese is fully melted and stretchy, 2–4 minutes.
- Transfer to a board and rest 1 minute to set; slice and serve hot.
